  3. Welcome to the January, 1995 edition of the Walnut Creek CICA for MS
  4. Windows CDROM!  
  5.  
  6. This disc contains the Microsoft Windows Archive from CICA (The Center for
  7. Innovative Computing Applications).

  11. Here is a list of some important files and directories:

  13. 00_index.txt     A list of all files with descriptions - English
  14. 00_index.spa     A list of all files with descriptions - Spanish
  15. 00_index.ger     A list of all files with descriptions - German
  16. 00_index.ita     A list of all files with descriptions - Italian
  17. 00_index.por     A list of all files with descriptions - Portuguese
  18. 00_index.fre     A list of all files with descriptions - French
  19.  
  20. setup.exe        Windows SETUP program
  21. winview.exe      Windows file viewer for the index files
  22. view.exe         DOS file viewer for the index files (See DOCS\VIEW.DOC)
  23. dirs.txt         List of the directories with descriptions
  24. files.txt        List of all of the files on the CDROM
  25. vbrun?00.dll     Visual Basic run time library

  34. To use this disc, you will need to unarchive the compressed programs
  35. on the CDROM to your hard disk.  
  36.  
  37. To make browsing the disk easier, we have included the WINVIEW
  38. program for Windows and VIEW for MSDOS in the root directory of the
  39. CDROM.  This program allows you to page through the index files and
  40. then unarchive the program(s) you want onto your hard disk.

  44. INSTALLATION:
  45.  
  46. Although the WINVIEW and VIEW programs require no installation (as
  47. they can run directly off of the disc), you can install the programs
  48. onto your hard drive using the SETUP program.  To run the
  49. installation:
  50.  
  51.         1)      Start up Windows
  52.  
  53.         2)      Choose RUN from the Program Manager File menu to see the RUN
  54.                 dialog box.
  55.         
  56.         3)      In the command line box, type
  57.  
  58.                         D:\setup
  59.  
  60.                 (If the D: drive is not your CDROM drive, change it to the
  61.                 appropriate CDROM drive letter.) 
  62.  
  63.         4) Click OK to start the installation.

  67. To install a program you uncompressed onto your hard drive from the
  68. CDROM so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do one of two things: 
  69.  
  70. 1)  First select Windows Setup in the Main Group. 
  71.     Then select Options in the menu bar.  
  72.     Select Set Up Applications.
  73.     Select Ask You to Specify An Application.
  74.     Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install.
  75.  
  76.     Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application
  77.     Group and set up the program to run from the icon.
  78.  
  79.     For example, to make an permanent icon for boxworld after copying
  80.     it with VIEW you would type:
  81.  
  82.         c:\win3\games\boxworld\boxworld.exe
  83.  
  84.     into the "Specify An Application" box.
  85.  
  86. 2)  Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which
  87.     usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install.
  88.  
  89.     Drag that program icon to your Applications porogram group inside
  90.     your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button.  The icon 
  91.     will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be
  92.     run from that icon.

  96. Some applications require vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, or
  97. vbrun300.dll.  These files are provided in the the root directory of
  98. the CDROM.
